Agile Ensures Your Needs Come First

A man’ouche is always a man’ouche, right? After all, it’s just a dough pie with a zaa’tar mix (or cheese, or any topping of your choice).

Wrong. A man’ouche is more than that. That’s why you buy your man’ouche from “Abou Man’ouche” and not “The Man’ouche Emperor” – or one of literally hundreds of other bakeries around you – even though they essentially sell the same product.

The difference? You have a better experience at “Abou Man’ouche”. For you, it’s about more than just the product: the way they greet you when you come in, or answer the phone, or the way it’s being delivered to you … all of it makes you feel more valued.

Whether it is a man’ouche, a car, a smartphone, or a credit card, every company traditionally develops its products following a linear approach: understanding the market’s needs, designing a product that answers one of these needs,  testing it, then launching it.

Down the road, there might be a need for fine-tuning as the market evolves. This is the most common approach to product development, known as the Waterfall model, which works progressively to reach the desired outcome.

However, the Waterfall model can be risky because it is less responsive to change. At the end of the product development cycle, a company may find that it is hard to adapt a product to its customers’ evolving needs because the requirements  set at the start of the cycle were either misarticulated, misunderstood, or implemented incorrectly.

To prevent this dead end, several companies with a strong focus on customers are using a different approach: the Agile model. These include heavyweights like Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon, among others. Agile has proven to be more effective and better suited at delivering value to customers.

How Saradar Bank Puts Agility to Work

One year ago, Saradar Bank adopted Agile as part of its digital transformation journey. We have completely revamped the way we design our digital projects, from our website to our mobile banking application and many more projects underway.

For each digital project, we assemble a multifunctional team, or “squad” to work together under a common objective: building the best products for our customers!

Initially, the squad develops a prototype of the product and tests it with a sample of our customers to validate it. The squad then begins working on new iterations of the product in sprints of two weeks, adding more functionalities and enhancements each time. Once we reach a minimum viable product (MVP), we test it with a selected number of customers for final feedback before we launch it publically.

Our continuous delivery pipeline means that the product’s value keeps growing after it hits the market by adding new functionalities to adapt to customers’ evolving needs.

For example, since we launched our new website three months ago, we have already introduced additional offerings to it, such as this very blog we started last month. The blog aims to provide you with additional information and insights so we can keep the conversation going with you.
